Why Local Leadership Matters to Young Children


Last week, Groundwork Ohio and Ready, Set, Soar Ohio partnered with the National Association of County Commissioners and the County Commissioners Association of Ohio for a webinar titled ‘Why Local Leadership Matters for Young Children?’ The webinar featured:

  • Rashida Brown, National Association of Counties

  • Shannon Jones, Groundwork Ohio

  • Rachel Massoud, County Commissioners Association of Ohio

  • Commissioner Carolyn Rice, Montgomery County (OH)

  • April Jenkins, El Paso County Department of Human Services (CO)

  • Ken Cornell, Children's Trust of Alachua County (FL)

The goal of the webinar was to offer county leaders across the state of Ohio with insight on the roles they play in investing in young children as well as offer examples from other states that have successfully invested in their young children. Shannon Jones provided an overview of why investing in prenatal-to-three strategies is crucial for local communities and economies. El Paso County (CO) and Alachua County (FL) also shared how their communities have prioritized young children and families through various programs and investments.
